every election has consequences but it's often those closest to you which have the biggest impact in your daily life.it's safe to say the pandemic has illustrated the importance of local elections perhaps as well as any event in our lifetime.
Live updates in Coventry and Warwickshire local elections - all of the results from Super Thursday
It has been a big day at the polls across the region
The results are coming in from Local Election Day 2021.
There have been elections at Coventry City Council, where a third of councillors are up for election with a by-election also held in Wyken following the sad death of Cllr Hazel Sweet. In all, 19 seats are up for grabs with 111 candidates vying for votes.
Over in Warwickshire, there have been elections for Warwickshire County Council, where 57 seats are up-for-grabs, with one councillor due to be elected for each ward, for a four-year term in office.
Shameful cuts to UK foreign aid programme It s Local Election Day on May 6, but my thoughts are for the moment on things overseas, in lands much poorer than ours, where people (usually women and children) walk to collect water from often polluted sources, in doing so bringing home preventable sickness to family members. I once worked proudly with our Government’s Aid programme to help communities build systems to end this most pitiful of poverty. The Johnson Government’s decision to cut by 80 per cent the finance it directs to this need is to my mind not only deeply shameful but also self-defeating.
