Deprived families in Bolton set to see contribution to council tax bills go up

170659519 Council Tax THE most deprived families in Bolton are set to see their contribution to council tax bills increase under new plans announced by the local authority. Under Bolton Council’s local council tax support scheme (LCTS), residents on benefits or very low incomes pay at least 12.5 per cent of their council tax bills. Bolton Council’s cabinet has said that proportion will rise to 17.5 per cent for all those of working age in receipt of the support. The increase was set to be implemented from April 2021. But the council has deferred the increase for 12 months as they have received government funding to target those on low incomes and  benefits which enabled them to delay the rise by a year.
