this is a job creator not a job killer as my colleagues are describing. by the way that is not a it s a very inpolitic way of putting it. this is about helping to give people in this country the opportunity to afford health insurance which they have many millions have not had the opportunity to do. it will give to the american people what members of congress have, that is choice and the availability to purchase their own healthcare insurance. that s what the american people want. jenna: iowa congressman steve king calls the president s hard fought legislation a malignant tumor for this country. he s the main cosponsor of the repeal bill. he joins us now. you came up with the language, job killer, a job-killing healthcare law. we re obviously hearing a difference of opinion from the white house and from democrats who say the repeal would be a job killer. so what is the truth? well, the truth is this is a
capitol hill this morning, what is that all about? reporter: well, jon it s a pretty good question since this is a labor dispute between players and owners. sports fans are used to that playing out without congress getting involved. the players say the national football league lobbies congress, so why can t they? they say they are here to ensure lawmakers know the issues. anything we can do to get our message out that we want to play, we want to be on the field starting in august, there is no reason to have a lock out. we can get the agreement in place without being locked out, any time you re talking about somebody shutting the doors where you can t go to work, it s a big deal. reporter: now representative for the players says the union plans on stressing another point. congress has granted and antitrust exemption to the national football hraoefplgt it allows them to negotiate the hraoug ra tiff television deals. most of the dozen or players on the hill today, they are probably
jenna: a lot is made of the reasons why, why senator conrad deciding not to run again, senator lieberman why he is deciding not to run again and retire. what do you make of the reasons that are given this time around? well, you know, i can not look into the heart of any man and judge his motives but i can say if you re a democrat, this is going to be a rough cycle in the senate because, now connecticut is a little different. i think for lieberman what he is facing a three-way race, independent against republican and a democrat. he may caucus with the democrats but the democrats in his state have it out for him. and it would have been a difficult run, there s no doubt. in conrad s case, there s a pretty decent chance he would have been unseated. if you look what is going on in north dakota, they have gone from having an all-democratic delegation in congress now to two republicans and one democrat. republicans would like to pick up that third. when you look across the country, you see
kentucky or in new jersey. jon: why hasn t that been done? it wasn t been done because obviously the president or the former democratic majority didn t want it to get done. in the loss congress we had a republican healthcare bill. we ve got 87 new freshman. we re going to hear their ideas. but number one allowing you to purchase across state lines. medical liability reform can save billions in the system. health savings accounts that insure that healthcare is patient centered, that you can make choices for and your family. so today is about repeal, tomorrow we start the process about replacement. let s remember something else, it s not just about jobs, but it s also about the cost. we can t afford obamacare. that is 2.6 trillion more reasons to repeal it. that s the true cost of the bill. we cannot afford it and american people want something different. jon: we ll continue to watch it as you go forward. thank you. thank you. jenna: we are now awaiting an
