Jake Alan Cook, 32, admitted speeding when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court. The court heard that on September 14 he was driving along a single carriageway of the Newtown bypass in a Peugeot, when he was stopped by police. He had been recorded travelling in daylight at 82mph on a stretch of the road where the speed limit is 50mph. Representing himself, Cook, of Nobold, Baschurch, Shropshire, said: “I’m embarrassed about it. I only moved up here a few days before. “I was coming back from Llys Nant and was behind a lorry and I was trying to overtake it. I thought it was a dual carriageway.”
