The vending machine became wildly popular. It operates 24 hours a day, and Beynon-Thomas says people have queued up as early as 6.30am and as late as 2.30am. Customers chatted to one another, took photos, and shared those photos on Instagram. “When they’re queuing,” says Beynon-Thomas, “they’re outdoors, and they stay two metres apart, but they can still talk to someone and they feel like they’re involved in something.”
He thought business might dwindle once lockdown was over and pubs, supermarkets and restaurants had reopened. Far from it. Business has remained healthy and the family has added a milkshake vending machine too. Many more farms, in Wales and England alike, have set up machines of their own.
