Buffalo City Metro is pulling out all the stops to clean up the city, and in doing so will provide hundreds of jobs and reduce pressure on our landfill sites. The city is rolling out buy-back centres and beautification programmes and employing workers to collect recyclable waste with the help of Buffalo City Municipality Development Agency (BCMDA) and Border Kei Chambers of Business (BKCOB), 653 new jobs will be created.
As the country was again plunged into extended periods of darkness due to blackouts implemented by Eskom, Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane revealed the province had spent close to R4million on fuel to keep the lights on.
Developers have been leaving Buffalo City Metro, unable to invest in projects because the city has left their applications for land rezoning and new developments unattended to for up to four years. The municipality’s spatial planning and development directorate has been unable to ease the bottleneck because the council has not approved or rejected the applications.
