candidate, had the best chance to beat barack obama. i was wrong. today, i am withdrawing as a romney delegate. i am endorsing rick santorum for president of the united states. the size of the federal government doubled in his time in office. he voted to raise the debt ceiling five different times without compensating cuts. if you want a fiscal conservative, you can t vote for rick santorum, because he is not. bret: well, there are the two front runners in michigan. rick santorum and mitt romney. mike dewine, the current attorney general in ohio, and former u.s. senator endorsing santorum. he a romney supporter. what about the state of the race right now? let s bring in the panel. bill kristol, liz marlantez,
unlikely we have a suicide bomber. bret: okay, what about this with the lightning round? bill? i don t know. i think they are doing a good job of tracing the lone wolfs in our country. i remain much more concerned about people connected to the terrorism from abroad. bret: liz? i would have to agree with that. we don t know a lot of details still about the guy. what little we do know suggests he wasn t particularly sophisticated and so i mean, it was a good catch. but it doesn t seem like a huge threat. bret: charles? it seems as if after 9/11 we instituted all kind of systems and it s a lot of overkill at airports; nevertheless, reduced number of would-be attackers coming from the outside with the exception of the underwear attacker in detroit. but he is mostly home grown. there in a free society where we don t want to single out one ethnic group, getting the young male islamic, radicalized jihaddist where it s hard to find generally
the vatican. i go by the constitution and not talk about these issues on which he is not in the mainstream. liz, conventional wisdom is the issue, itself. back and forth in washington has helped rick santorum. but charles is suggesting that there is a point where it hurts. there is primary and sgren. if you think ahead. if you think santorum might get there. yes. in terms of the general election, fight of the merit of contraception is not something that the republican party wants to be having. i do think in a weird way, santorum has been elevated by this in part because it allows him to appeal to conservatives who agree with him on this. i think there is a certain amount of he is getting credit for his authenticity and his willingness to put this out there that he knows isn t necessarily popular with everybody. and stick with it. i think that contrasted romney served santorum well in some ways. romney s biggest problem in this race is nobody knows what
and syndicated columnist charles krauthammer. liz, your sense of race as we get ready for the 28th in michigan and arizona? it is interesting right now. what polling we had right now shows santorum is actually leading romney in michigan. romney is now on the record saying he is not going to lose michigan. he is not trying to lower expectations there. he is trying to set a bench mark and say i am going to hold this state. and i have to say if i had to guess right now i d say he is going to. but who knows? all bets are off. santorum is certainly having a very good run at the moment. and he knows it. you can see that expression on his face standing there next to mike dewine today. he is feeling good about things. bret: the santorum campaign says they will launch strong ad buys they say in michigan, arizona, and then the state of ohio, oklahoma, georgia, tennessee and north dakota. strong six figures, bill, is what they are saying for a campaign that did not have lat of money at the be
