County health director Tammy Cody discusses her COVID-19 battle

View Comments MARSHALL - Madison County Health Director Tammy Cody dropped a bomb during an interview on a local radio program: Cody had spent time in the hospital in the fall battling COVID-19.  During a May 5 live interview with Liz Gullum on WART s Community Conversation with Ann and Liz, Cody discussed the county s COVID-19 statistics and detailed the process of conducting contact tracing with the Madison High girls soccer team after a player tested positive for the virus on April 28.  But maybe the most shocking news revealed during the program was that Cody herself battled COVID-19 in the fall, and even spent some time in the hospital during her fight.

Host of residents speak out on proposed asphalt plant in state hearing

View Comments RALEIGH - During the nearly two-hour North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) public hearing May 3 on the proposed asphalt plant in Marshall, more than 20 local residents voiced their disapproval of the project, while not one person spoke in favor of it.  The proposed facility is located at 3807 U.S. 25/70 in Marshall. Madison Asphalt LLC first applied for a permit to operate the small facility plant in February 2019. NCDEQ s Heather Carter was appointed hearing officer for the meeting, which was held remotely, with people offering their comments either online or by phone. Due to significant public interest, the director of the Division of Air Quality has decided to open a comment period and conduct a public hearing to receive permanent public comments to allow or deny the issuance of this air permit to Madison Asphalt LLC, Carter said.
