About a year ago Livonia schools, along with those across Michigan, were looking at canceling traditional rites of passage like high school graduation ceremonies and prom. Livonia ended up holding drive-thru graduation ceremonies and canceling prom at its three high schools.
This year, district officials are moving those events outdoors so they can happen in-person for the class 2021.
“Typically our senior honors night, prom and commencement are all opportunities for that senior class to be together one last time, Andrew Pesci, principal of Franklin High School, said. For us as a staff who have worked closely with so many students, it’s an opportunity to have those conversations and have those moments with them that we love. It was devastating not having the opportunity to do those traditional events.”
The Grinch, who social distanced before it was cool, said this year really hasn’t been that different for him. But, he started channeling his energy into more typical hobbies when he decided to cancel this year’s attempt at a holiday heist.
“I don t want to brag, but I ve perfected my sourdough recipe, he said. I’ve also been doing a lot of crocheting – my dog Max has a hat for every color of the rainbow. During the summer, I got a chance to binge ‘Friends,’ as well. I’m glad those crazy kids Ross and Rachel finally figured it out in the end.”
