This Swing District Democrat Has an Uncomfortable Connection to Group Promoting Critical Race Theory

Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), a swing-district Democrat who was elected in the 2018 blue wave, has a troubling connection to a diversity council in her district promoting Critical Race Theory (CRT).  As the Washington Free Beacon reported on Monday, Rep. Slotkin s eyes and ears local liaison for the district, Mona Shand, is listed as a Board Member at Large for the Livingston Diversity Council.  According to reporting from the Livingston Post in February 2019, when Shand was given the position:  Mona Shand of Brighton has joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) as the congresswoman’s representative (or “eyes and ears”) in Livingston County. Shand will also represent Slotkin at various community events.

April 29, 2021 By Jon King / jking@whmi.com The woman who leads local Democrats is calling a vote earlier this week by the all-Republican County Board of Commissioners, “a small, petty decision” when they declined to appoint a Democrat to the bipartisan county jury commission, and instead left the position vacant. Judy Daubenmier, who chairs the Livingston County Democratic Party, issued a press release (posted below) following Monday’s meeting of the county board in which they approved incumbent Nancy Sauvage, a Democrat, and former commissioner Bill Green, a Republican, to the county jury commission, omitting the name of Democrat Dane Morris, despite the fact that all three had been nominated to the panel by Chief Judge Michael Hatty.

WHMI 93 5 Local News : Vaccine Allocation Reform Resolution Passes County Committee

February 19, 2021 By Mike Kruzman & Jon King / news@whmi.com Mixed support was shown largely along party lines for a new resolution introduced at the county level requesting the state change how they determine vaccine allocations. The Board of Commissioners’ General Government and Health and Human Services Committee held a special meeting, Thursday. There they passed a resolution calling upon Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services to retract the newly-implemented Social Vulnerability Index allocation plan and replace it with a more Scientific Medical Factor Based Plan for vaccine distribution. In that, senior populations would be weighted more heavily than they are in the SVI. The SVI weighs 15 social-economic factors and is being used to rank Michigan’s 83 counties on how at-risk their populations are. Senior population is 6.25% of the equation.
