A talented Mackay High will face St Patrick’s College in the Aaron Payne Cup on Tuesday, but coach Baira said the side was focused on another aspect of its structure.
In the bronze medal game, U14 boys team Sunshine Coast Gold defeated Mantas 8-4. As a regional team, I thought the biggest positives were we got better and better as the tournament went on, Sunshine Coast coach Dean Carselse said. The kids are still young. It is an awesome age group where there are lots of Queensland representatives in every team, so it is good for the future of this division. I am really proud of the boys.

The enviable title of best in Queensland goes on the line this afternoon when the Mackay Meteorettes take on hosts Gold Coast Waves in the final of the U18 Girls’ State Basketball Championships.
Lukass Blicavs’s Meteorettes punched their ticket to the gold medal match with a 73-52 win over Logan Thunder in Saturday’s major semi-final.
They were later joined in the decider by pre-tournament favourites Gold Coast Waves, who handily dispatched South West Metro Pirates 95-68.
