As 2019 drew to a close, a stroll around Toxteth would have told a story of an area gradually leaving behind decades of decline, neglect and bad press. The bold, exciting colours of the Granby Four Streets are a world away from the bleak rows of abandoned terraces left to slide into dereliction for decades. Locals say streets that have been left to rot for years are now alive with the sounds of children playing and family life, thanks in no small part to the efforts of local activists.
