Jack’s Walk for Veterans 23 April 2021 | 10:27am A Teenager’s ANZAC Day Walk A 15 year old will commemorate ANZAC Day by walking from the Mulwala RSL Dawn Service to the Bundalong Tavern, in full military kit, to raise money and awareness for veterans. Jack Mcqualter-Whyte was inspired to play a part in supporting returned service men and women after learning about their struggles. “I was looking at statistics behind our veterans who returned home from Afghanistan and other places suffering from PTSD, and thought it was pretty bad numbers and thought it would be a good thing to go out there and support them,” Jack told Kylie and Kev.

Jobs Snub - 1494 2AY - Local / National News

Workers With Plenty to Give When 62 year old Wodonga resident Stephen sold his business, he never expected he’d still be looking for a job six months later. While several industries and businesses claim they are desperate for workers, Stephen’s experience indicates he may be missing out, due to his age. In desperation, he contacted the Neil Mitchell Program to explain his dilemma. “I’m very fit, very healthy, I’ve run hotels, motels and nightclubs for the past 40 years, so I’m very skilled up, but I can’t get a look in as soon as they know my age,” he said.

Raise a Glass - 1494 2AY - Local / National News

Stylish Get Together An industry event to ‘raise a glass’ and embrace the challenges tackled by the region’s barbers and stylists in the past 12 months is gaining momentum. Organiser Casey Lea says, like many industries, the past 12 months of the pandemic and border closures has been challenging. “When COVID first hit, hairdressers and barbers were still classed as an essential service – so we were standing really close to people – it was a very grey area,” Casey said. “In NSW we were allowed to stay open, but our poor hairdressers and barbers in Victoria had to close – clients in NSW couldn’t come over – it was up and down.

Book of the Month - 1494 2AY - Local / National News

Be Inspired By Green Cleaning If you’re after some practical tips or ‘life hacks’ surrounding eco-friendly cleaning, cooking or gardening, then The Ace Book Club book of the month for April is a must read. The book is the accumulation of knowledge and trial and error by mother and daughter team Alisa and Cynthia Mayne. “Mum and I actually wrote this ten years ago, and I think this might be the fifth updated edition now,” Alisa explained. “We grew up self-sufficiently with mum and dad until I was seven, and I’ve been in the food industry, running businesses for 25 years, so we’ve combined our knowledge with lots of simple life tips – some are tried and tested and been around for ages, others are just new techniques to put into your house.
