COIMBATORE: R Krishna Kitena of Velaricombai village in Nilgiris district is on a mission to document the lifestyle and culture of kurumba tribes and preserve their 3,000-year-old art.
The 45-year-old man is using natural dyes to make paintings that portray religious rituals, honey gathering expeditions, traditional ways of harvesting, temples and festivals of the tribal community. He is also teaching the art to youngsters of the community with the help of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (Trifed).
