Taipei, May 21 (CNA) The Taiwan Blood Services Foundation (TBSF) on Friday called on people to donate blood as reserves around the country are down to 4.4 days on average, well below the officially designated seven-day safe level. The situation has never been this urgent in the last 20 years, not even during the SARS epidemic, TBSF official Liu Chun-hong (劉俊宏) said.
The shortage is mainly due to the sudden wave of domestic COVID-19 cases in Taiwan, which has led more people to stay home even if demand for blood still remains high at hospitals around Taiwan.
