she moved both legs on command, a sign that both sides of her brain are responding. they said it s significant that giffords is able to open her eye and focus on surrounngs. it implies that not just those parts of the brain that process commands are there but the parts of the brain that let us awake from sleeping our arousal center, those are starting to work simultaneously. starting to become aware of her surroundings. at this hour in tucson, local fire trucks will be raising the flag that survived the attack on the twin pow towers, a tribute to the child born on the day of terror only to be taken down nine years later. in christina we see all of our children, so curious, so trusting, so energetic, so full of magic and so deserving of our good example. christina green will be laid
as he said, scripture teaches us there s always evil. it was a very delicate line for the president to walk. you know, he does not want to appear, i would think, lectury or talking down to americans who are having healthy political debates. and yet this has been an occurring motif throughout his public career. this president has always looked for unity and always called for civility. it seemed to me, you know, over 30 minutes, it was an extraordinarily long speech for these sorts of situations. ronald reagan s challenger er speech was 4 1/2 minutes. this was over 30. but he was trying to do a lot of things. he was trying, most importantly, though, to speak for the fallen. and i thought that s where the real power of this speech was, when he told the stories of the fallen and at the end, he came back, reminded us that we have to try to lift ourselves to be worthy, particularly of little christina green. the applause, too, oftentimes lengthy, added to the time more than made the speec
