A fire in the Pryor Mountains reported at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday was estimated Wednesday afternoon to be 5,000 acres in size.
Named the Crooked Creek Fire, the blaze is burning near Big Ice Cave on Big Pryor Mountain, south of the town Pryor and just north of the Wyoming state line. The fire is along the Carbon and Big Horn county border on National Forest lands.
Wednesday morning the fire had been reported to be 500 acres in size.
Al Nash, chief of communications for the Montana Dakotas State Office of the Bureau of Land Management, attributed much of the increased size to a better estimate.Â

CROW AGENCY, Mont. - A 100-acre fire is burning deep in the Little Bull Elk Canyon on the Crow Reservation Tuesday.
According to a release from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Branch of Wildland Fire Management (BWFM), the Buffalo Pasture Fire is located southwest of the road between Little Bull Elk Ridge and the buffalo pasture, and west of the old hunter s cabin and the new cabin.Â
There are 800 to 1000 tons of heavy timber per acre in the canyon forest that have not burned in many years; thus, BWFM said the fire will create a lot of smoke.

CROW AGENCY - A wildfire was reported Tuesday on the Crow Indian Reservation.
According to a social media post by the BIA Forestry & Wildland Fire Management, a helicopter flyover at 11:30 a.m. estimated the fire was about 100 acres in size.
The fire is reported to be burning in the Bighorn Mountains in a deep canyon between Little Bull Elk Ridge and the tribe s buffalo pasture known as the Little Bull Elk Canyon. It is burning in heavy fuels on both sides of that steep canyonâs walls with rapid rates of spread, with 100- to 150-foot flame lengths, so the size is changing as we speak, the post states.
