Friday’s Supreme Court decision overturning federal protection of abortion rights is expected to motivate voters on both sides of the issue in Tuesday's primary in Illinois.
Illinois voters will head to the polls Tuesday for primary elections that will set candidates for 2022 elections which include Knox County Sheriff, Knox County Resident Judge, and both state and U.S. representatives. There's a primary between Republican State Rep. Dan Swanson and upstart candidate Matthew Rauschert. 22-year-old Rauschert has no political experience but has a lot of cash and advocates a more aggressive populist more of conservatism. Alpha's Swanson is running for his 4th term after he succeeded Don Moffitt in 2016. There's a whole host of candidates vying to replace Democratic U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, who announced she's retiring. Six candidates are running on the Democratic side, including former State Rep. Litesa Wallace, Rockford Aldermen Jonathan Logemann, and former Quad Cities TV meteorologist Eric Sorensen. Wallace would become the first black woman to represent the 17th, while Sorensen would be Illinois' first openly gay Congressperson. O
