A major winter snow storm pummeled Northeast Pennsylvania overnight Wednesday, dropping about a foot of powder or more in many areas and snarling traffic on the regionâs highways.
The storm made good on forecasts calling for snowfall in excess of a foot, with observers reporting 20 inches in Harveys Lake, 15 inches in Wilkes-Barre, 15 inches in West Pittston, almost 13 inches in Mountain Top and about 12 inches in Drums, according to the National Weather Service.
The official total at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport was 11 inches â short of the record two-day total for December of 15 inches, which was set in 1917, weather service Meteorologist Bryan Greenblatt said.
