The Vermont Department of Health reported 143 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. The reported total of 13,046 cases is 146 higher than the total reported Sunday. The department did not explain the discrepancy.
All but one of Vermontâs 14 counties reported new cases over the past day. Chittenden County had 42 new cases; Rutland County had 25; Bennington County had 19; Franklin County had 16; Washington County had 15; Addison County had eight; Windsor County had six; Windham County had four; Orleans County had three; Lamoille County had two; and Caledonia, Essex and Orange counties each had one. Grand Isle County had no new cases.

A total of 136 students and staff at 29 K-12 school districts and two colleges have been infected by coronavirus in new school-related outbreaks, according to data released Monday, Feb. 8, by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The biggest outbreaks involved 16 students and staff each at Lapeer High School and at Michigan Tech University.
In addition to Michigan Tech, a new college outbreak was reported by Concordia University in Ann Arbor involving four students.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 16 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county:

ALPENA The number of positive COVID-19 tests among Northeast Michiganders has dropped markedly in recent weeks, but so has the number of coronavirus tests being requested by local residents.
After averaging 107 tests a day in November and December, in January an average of 89 coronavirus tests were administered to Alpena County residents, according to data provided by the state.
In the past week, that average fell to 65 tests per day.
Outlying counties followed the same trend, although less noticeably.
About 70 Presque Isle County residents were tested per day in November. That rate declined to 54 per day in December, and fell still further to about 32 per day in January.
