Tue, 05/25/2021 - 09:05 WHITE WOMAN DRIVES VEHICLE INTO ELIZABETH CITY PROTESTERS, INJURING TWO: A Greenville woman could face hate crime charges after she struck two Black women with her vehicle as they were protesting the April killing of Andrew Brown Jr. by sheriff’s deputies, according to Elizabeth City Police. The two pedestrians were treated for “non life-threatening injuries” at an area hospital and later released, police said. Charges against 41-year-old Lisa Michelle O’Quinn, who is white, include “assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill by the use of a motor vehicle,” careless and reckless driving and unsafe movement, police said. She remained in jail Tuesday under $40,000 bond. The department said it is investigating “potential aggravating factors” that could result in hate crime charges being filed.

© Elizabeth City Police Department A North Carolina woman was arrested Monday and could face hate crime charges after police said she struck two protesters with a vehicle at a demonstration. The driver, identified by police in Elizabeth City, N.C., as Lisa Michelle O’Quinn, was charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, along with other charges, after allegedly hitting two people with a vehicle at 6:45 p.m. Monday.  Police said in a statement Tuesday that the victims, identified as Michelle Fleming Morris and Valerie Lindsey, were “peacefully protesting and exercising their constitutional rights.” 

White North Carolina motorist who struck Black protesters may face hate crime charges

By Syndicated Content By Brendan O’Brien (Reuters) – Police in Elizabeth City, North Carolina said on Tuesday they were investigating whether a white motorist committed a hate crime when she struck two Black demonstrators who were protesting the fatal police shooting of Andrew Brown. Lisa Michelle O’Quinn, 41, drove her vehicle into two 42-year-old women who were “peacefully protesting and exercising their constitutional rights” on Monday evening, the Elizabeth City Police Department said in a statement. A cell phone video aired on local news showed a motorist behind the wheel of a white car driving into the women as they walked on a residential street with other protesters who were calling for justice for Brown, 42, who was killed by deputies on April 21.
