Embattled High Court Judge and former secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Justice Lloyd Lloyd Muhala has been stripped off his judicial powers to preside over cases in the court of law due to him facing criminal charges.
Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal Gladys Gondwe has confirmed that Muhara no longer sits on the bench.
However, in a twist of events, Ombudsman Martha Chizuma also synchronically ordered the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to appraise whether or not Justice Muhara was felicitous and judiciary suitable to serve as a judge in the High Court of Malawi.

The High Court in Blantyre on Friday ordered President Lazarus Chakwera to immediately reinstate two embattled Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioners Jean Mathanga and Linda Kunje.

The court has further ordered government to pay honorarium to the two mentioned MEC commissioners starting from the month they stopped receiving these benefits.
Apart from that, High Court Judge, Jack Nriva has also ordered said the office of the president to pay all the legal costs.

Chakwera fired the two saying they were appointed illegally and government at the time that they were already not receiving their monthly benefits against the Attorney General’s advice.

Barely hours after the High Court had ordered to seize and sell property of Former president Peter Mutharika and former Secretary to the President and Cabinet Lloyd Muhara for failing to pay K69.5m legal cost that came after losing a court case, the two have paid in full.

Charles Mhango, lawyer for Mutharika and Muhara has confirmed the development.
Mutharika and Muhara were ordered by the High Court to pay K69,507,461 on March 12 2021 in legal cost in a case where their decisions to send on Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda and Justice of Appeal Edward Twea leave, pending retirement, were faulted.

The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has demanded immediate dismissal of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ulemu Msungama, for allegedly misleading President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on the MK9.4 billion world class swimming pool project.
The government intends to construct the world-class swimming pool at the Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe.

But the development has riled many stakeholders, including CDEDI, which argues that a swimming pool is not a priority area to invest in at a time the nation is grappling with unprecedented suicide cases among the youths.
