TASMAC s recent decision to raise liquor prices in Tamil Nadu, effective February 1, brings a Rs 10 to Rs 80 hike across categories like beer, brandy, whiskey, and rum. The move, driven by increased sales tax and excise duty, marks the first IMFL price increase in two years. Exclusive sales of imported liquor at elite TASMAC outlets further underscore the strategy. With 40% of sales in the ordinary range, consumers face increased costs, highlighting a significant shift in the state s liquor landscape.
He also said that due to the change in the prices and categories of liquor, the state government is expected to get additional revenue of up to Rs 25 crore annually.
