Suggested Event
Jun 15, 2021 to Jun 17, 2021
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Ochiltree and Lipscomb counties will host a wheat field day on May 18 in Ochiltree County.
Interested producers will gather at 10 a.m. at the Noon Vela Farm located 2.5 miles north of Farm-to-Market Road 759 on County Road 11. There is no cost for the field day.
“This year has been a promising year in the northeast Panhandle, with favorable moisture conditions up until mid-April and early May,” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Ochiltree County. “Overall, the crop looks like it has a lot of potential, and the variety trial is a good representation of how the different genetics are responding to the conditions.”

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The U.S. Treasury Department opened an online portal for counties to begin requesting their share of the $2 trillion American Rescue Plan, and the portal shows Potter and Randall counties combined being eligible for nearly $50 million.
The amount is based on the population of the counties.
According to the Texas Association of Counties, half of the money is available this month, and half will be available 12 months after the first payment.
Counties can use the money to cover costs to respond to the pandemic and revenue shortfalls like hiring and keeping personnel, repairing or investing in water, sewer and broadband infrastructure.

Northeast Panhandle Crop Profitability Conference to feature Extension Economist Justin Benavidez and Risk Management Specialist DeDe Jones.
All Northeast Panhandle area crop producers are invited to the virtual Northeast Panhandle Crop Profitability Conference, an online crop budgeting and market outlook meeting hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Ochiltree and Lipscomb counties on Jan. 7.
“This meeting has been conducted annually in Ochiltree County for over 15 years now, but this year we have to offer it as a virtual meeting due to the virus,” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Ochiltree County. “It is a great meeting for producers to see the latest budgets for the major crops grown in the area based on the current market outlook as well as variable and fixed production costs. This hopefully will help them begin to determine the crop mix on their respective farms.”
