but at least some of that may go to conserving wildlife organizations. until the south african one, there s no revenue. none of it goes anywhere near conserving wild lion populations. and i understand one thing that upsets you most is that some people are luring young volunteers to contribute to the industry and they don t know they re doing it, right? that s exactly right. it s an important point. volunteers are attracted with the promise of being able to cuddle lion cubs. this incredibly appealing opportunity to raise lion cubs for conservations but what s going on is lion farmers and that s what they are remove the cubs from the adult lione lionesses when they re very young so the lionesses come into season and can reduce quickly and they use these willing naive volunteers from overseas, from the u.s. and western affluent democracies like the us to go and pay for the privilege of

in the jungle, the mighty in the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight finally this half hour, the most adorable swim test that we can say we ve seen. a family of lion cubs learning to swim the old fashioned way. being thrown right in. this one is our favorite story of the day, even though it is a little harsh. the big test happened at the national zoo. john gonzalez from our station in washington, d.c., shows us how it all went down. reporter: the all-important swim reliability test, to see if these 2-month-old lion cubs can swim at this point and also navigate toward shore and climb their paws from the mote to dry land. to know which way safety is and to make sure they are strong enough physically to pull themselves out of the water.
reporter: the first one came out quickly. the girl may have stayed in the longest of the four. the other two boys did swim a good distance along the wall. all four succeeded, zookeepers say. even some neighbors came out to see what the commotion is about. they re coming out into the open environment for the first time ever. so they re being hit on all five senses. reporter: animal care staff placed the cubs into the water and helped guide the cubs toward land. by passing the test, they will prove to the animal keepers that they are ready to safely explore the outdoor habitat and ready to be seen by the public. the gloves were puncture resistant, so that protects me when i m getting a cub out of the water. if they turn around and bite me, they can t break through. passing to us means that they all kept their heads above water, even the ones that submerged completely, they pulled their heads out. reporter: they were born march 2 to a 9-year-old mother.
