Coralville Police say that the 16-year old driver who fatally struck a cyclist last month was speeding and using social media at the time.
The Gazette reports Chief Shane Kron announced Monday that the teen faces a vehicular homicide charge from the April 6
th incident.
Just before 6am that day, the girl was heading southbound in the 2400 block of 12
th Avenue when she hit 36-year-old cyclist Andrew Pavlovec. He was in the traffic lane and using a headlight and taillight at the time. Kron said the driver was “actively using a social media application” and was going over 20 miles an hour over the posted 35 miles per hour speed limit.
