i m thinking of the house republicans and the grateful dead if you plant ice you will harvest wind, which is one of those lines that could mean anything, but sometimes what it means to me at least is, yeah, you put stuff in the ground that is not a seed, that is not meant to grow, it s not going to work with the surrounding environment. what are you going to get? and i was watching your coverage and thinking what you said that this is what they want. how do you negotiate with someone for a solution when the actual think they would quote, negotiate for is no solution? is what they re getting. i m glad you went back toest because republicans frankly fewer and fewer used to call me during the trump years. what do you want from us? we said grab them in the bleep wasn t ideal but you re still for him, you re still helping him beat his opponent who s a better choice, who isn t a threat to national security which all republicans are knew believed he was. so the bet was always to
speaker. i think the popular name that s been circulating as speaker in name only, and that is because this framework that these hard line defectors, detractors last week agreed to with mccarthy, which they have made clear is going to be their enforcement mechanism, you know, lowers the threshold for the motion to vacate to one member, which means that it only requires one house gop lawmaker to potentially oust the speaker if he brings something to the house floor that they don t agree with or if there s some sort of policy that he brings up. along with this are a handful of other concessions which actually have not been made public yet despite people like chip roy, jim jordan, congressman dan bishop, people who have said that this process was all a part of bringing transparency to, you know, an opaque bill making process on capitol hill.
the speaker s office that s monday what you re looking at on your screen and that was public. they took him and his position and to paraphrase jack harlow apparently these guys like speakers down-to-earth so don t be stuck up. they don t take ls, they give them out and chuck them up. whatever you think of these folks these now 20 hard line defectors have given mccarthy his ls or losses six of them and counting into the night. the defectors also have moved i should say towards a kind of a process. i don t think anyone thinks that they are super cooperative or conciliatory or even realistic, but they are playing ball pushing candidates to reflict their opposition to mccarthy. those folkerize now part of these high profile closed door
secret negotiations over what they re going to do with the debacle they re served up to the congress. that s what these hard line defectors are doing. that is a type of impact. it is a type of result, and they are giving losses out although they re lossess that affect their own party and the congress. i say that by way of reporting because that s part of why this matters. it s part of why so many people are watching the congress going how long is this going to last. but let me be clear on one final point before i bring in our experts. making other people lose doesn t always mean you re winning even in zero-sum politics. these 20 republican defectors have now marked the republican party s new rule as a time of chaos, of infighting, of power games with scant reference to the policies they ran on or the people they claim to serve.
