While McVay got his quarterback, it was costly. The Rams handed over their next two first-round picks, meaning their next first-round pick will be in 2024 if they don’t trade it away.
With Stafford in McVay’s system, it could lead to a big upgrade in production. Unfortunately, Stafford is turning 33 this week, and you have to wonder how much more he has in him. With the defense getting older and not much draft capital in the future, the Super Bowl window is small.

Jared Goff was not expected to play tonight. Two weeks ago, in the team’s second game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback suffered a nasty thumb injury, and he was only set to be used in emergency situations in today’s Wild Card round game against that same NFC West foe.
Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for another serious injury to knock out a Rams quarterback. John Wolford, who filled in last week in the win over the Arizona Cardinals, left in the first quarter with a scary neck injury that required him to head to the hospital. With no other quarterback active, in stepped Goff.

Aaron Donald knows the Los Angeles Rams are starting unproven quarterback John Wolford on Sunday in a pivotal Week 17 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Rams (9-6) need to defeat the Cardinals (8-7) to clinch a postseason berth, or hope the Chicago Bears (8-7) fall to the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
After QB Jared Goff underwent thumb surgery earlier this week, the Rams were forced to turn to Wolford, a 25-year old with zero career starts. Wolford went undrafted out of Wake Forest in 2018 and signed with L.A.’s practice squad a year later after he led the defunct Alliance of American Football League in touchdown passes.
