Saturday Night Live headed back to politics in its cold open, heading to Tucker Carlson and FOX News for a look at the Republicans who voted to acquit Trump at his Senate impeachment trial.
Said Alex Moffatt’s Tucker Carlson: “There’s a lot to cover tonight including the impeachment, so in place of my usual monologue here’s a loose collection of scaremongering non sequiturs: Is AOC hiding in your house right now? Wouldn’t put it past her. Pronouns for dogs? C’mon. Everybody knows they’re boys. Pixar: Is it making our kids depressed or gay? Pick one.”

Saturday Night Live’s latest cold open recapped the proceedings under the guise of
Tucker Carlson Tonight, with Republicans celebrating the acquittal of the former president for his role in the Capitol insurrection.
“Well, the impeachment has reached its foregone conclusion with the acquittal of Donald Trump,” host and “human White Claw” Carlson (Alex Moffat) said before welcoming two of Trump’s most ardent supporters, Lindsey Graham (Kate McKinnon) and Ted Cruz (Aidy Bryant).
He welcomes Trump “teacher’s pet” Lindsey Graham (Kate McKinnon), who wants the country to focus on the really important issues: “Locking up Hillary and freeing beautiful Britney Spears.” He’s joined by fellow Republican senator Ted Cruz (Aidy Bryant), who has to swallow his pride and carry water for Trump even though Trump called Cruz’s wife ugly in 2016.
Bad impressions of Trump’s defense team follow, before things wrap up with a short visit from Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (Beck Bennett), who “pretzels out” his logic for voting to acquit despite thinking Trump is “guilty as hell, and the worst person I ever met, and I hope every city, county and state locks his ass up!”

Within hours of the Senateâs vote to acquit former President Donald J. Trump on a charge of inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, âSaturday Night Liveâ was imagining how some of Trumpâs Republican allies in the Senate might be celebrating in a parody episode of âTucker Carlson Tonight.â
Alex Moffat played that Fox News host, who compared himself to a human White Claw and started his broadcast with what he called âa loose collection of scaremongering non sequiturs.â Among them, âIs AOC hiding in your house right now?â and âPixar: Is it making our kids depressed or gay? Pick one.â
