Peñasquitos leaders apologize for letter stressing Mira Mesa has lower incomes, more crime
A sliver of Rancho Peñasquitos was shifted from District 5 to District 6 a decade ago to help create San Diego’s first council district where Asians are the largest ethnic group.
Recently a large group of Peñasquitos residents have been lobbying for reunification of the community, which is part of the Poway Unified School District like most of District 5’s neighborhoods.
Similar efforts are underway in Linda Vista, which was divided a decade ago into District 2 and District 7.

“When the commission comes to drawing lines, I hope it will respect the integrity of communities and not diminish the clout of Linda Vista that has major socio-economic needs,” said Howard Wayne, a former state Assemblymember and interim chair of the Linda Vista Planning Group.
