NECAC advises of utility assistance extension
Moberly Monitor-Index
The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) has announced that the utility assistance deadline has been extended.
In-person applications will be accepted through May 31. The previous deadline was March 31. In addition, mailed applications postmarked June 14 or earlier will also be processed. The extension was approved by the Missouri Department of Social Services Family Support Division.
There are two types of assistance available. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) are funded by the federal government and distributed through the states, which contract with non-profit groups such as NECAC to administer the programs at the local level.
After the 2020 election, legislatures across the country are considering new voting laws.
And while no widespread voter fraud has been proven, it has not stopped conservative lawmakers from looking for solutions and new preventive measures.
Wyoming is no exception, with its legislature considering a bill that would require a voter to show an ID before voting in-person.
A person would have to provide a driver s license, state or tribal ID card, a passport, military ID, a state public school or college ID or a Medicare card.
While the original name of the bill was directed at fraud, voter fraud has not been a big issue in Wyoming.
Voter ID bill advances in Wyoming Legislature
(Dan Cepeda, Oil City File)
A measure to require a photo ID at the polls is sailing through the Legislature despite testimony from the Secretary of State and local election clerks that voter fraud is not a problem in Wyoming.
House Bill 75 – voter fraud-prevention would require voters to present either a valid Wyoming driver’s license, tribal ID, U.S. passport, military ID or Medicare insurance card when voting in person. Passage of the bill, which is sponsored by Rep. Chuck Gray (R-Casper) and co-sponsored by 56 lawmakers between the House and Senate, is all but certain.
