Blood drive Friday in Rogers City
With the cooperation of the Rogers City High School’s Key Club and the Kiwanis Club, Versiti Blood Center of Michigan will host a blood drive in Rogers City on Friday.
The drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Rogers City Senior and Community Center.Appointments can be made online at www.versiti.org (use the donate link) or by phone at 866-642-5663.
Alpena library hosts adult book club
Last month, Alpena County Library Book Club members discussed three Native American authors Louise Erdrich of the Chippewa nation, Leslie Marmon Silko of the Laguna Pueblo nation, and N. Scott Momaday of the Kiowa Gourd Dance Society and their contributions to literature. For the upcoming March meeting, book club members are encouraged to read a book of their choice by one of these authors.
Alpena Bridge Club results have been announced for this week.
In first place was Beverley Rousseau, followed by Eve Phillips in second place. A three-way tie for third place went to Marcy Sherman, Judie Vivian and Linda Clegg.

Alpena Bridge Club results announced
Alpena Bridge Club results for this week have been announced. The team of Eve Phillips and Dale Middleditch won first place. Marcy Sherman and Beverley Rousseau came in second place, and Linda Clegg and Audrey Stevens came in third place. For more information, call 989-595-5119 or 989-354-2306.
DNR suggests winter activities
Despite the cold weather, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources recommends that people get out and enjoy the recreational opportunities in the area.
Some of the activities include: cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, winter birding, winter camping, winter disc golf, and winter stargazing.
A FORMER head of children s services at Blackburn with Darwen Council has been honoured with an OBE. Linda Clegg, who is now chair of the St Helens Children s Improvement Board and a Department of Education improvement partner, received the award as part of the Queen s New Year Honours list. The award was given thanks to Ms Clegg s years of dedication to children s services in both Blackburn with Darwen and St Helens which has made a real difference to the lives of children and their families across both boroughs. For Blackburn with Darwen Council chief executive Harry Catherall who worked closely with Ms Clegg, said: “I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Linda at Blackburn with Darwen Council and more recently at St Helen’s Council. Children’s social care is a very demanding.
St Helens Council has sent congratulations to Linda Clegg, who has been awarded the OBE A PROMINENT figure in the improvement of children’s services in St Helens has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list. Linda Clegg, chair of the St Helens Children’s Improvement Board, and the St Helens DfE Improvement partner has been awarded an OBE for her services to children’s services. She has a wealth of experience in supporting children and prior to her current role, served as the director of children’s services at Blackburn with Darwen Council. The award was given due to Ms Clegg s years of dedication to children s services in both Blackburn with Darwen and St Helens.
