Diversity and familiarity best describe the 2021-22 Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra season, which will kick off in September with a full orchestra and audience.
Artistic advisor/conductor Bramwell Tovey described planning the season – the philharmonic s full return after the COVID-19 pandemic first shuttered, then minimized in-person shows – as a complex endeavor, and he worked to include the “familiar, intriguing and unusual.”
“We always look at what has and hasn’t been done in a while, but, after a major event, the familiarity of masterpieces is something people are anxious to hear,” he noted, adding he tried to encapsulate new and classic into each performance.

One year has passed since Baby Andrew’s disappearance.
His mother Arlety García Valdés, 40; grandmother Isabel Valdés González, 60; and Lina González Licor, 84, were killed in Miami by the baby’s father Ernesto Caballeiro before the man kidnapped the newborn and fled, authorities say.
Caballeiro was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot in a wooded area of Pasco County, but the baby hasn’t been seen since.
In the ensuing days, law enforcement agencies targeted a stretch of SR-29 in Big Cypress Preserve to try to find the newborn.

“After a long performance, a beer very much revitalizes and re-energizes me,” he said. “I normally have a deal with the stagehand to have one ready for me right when I come offstage. I haven’t established that rapport here yet.”
Delfs, 61, leaned back in his chair as he spoke, a knee resting on a table, a blue sweater over a dress shirt with French cuffs, projecting an air of casual refinement and the confidence of a conductor at a point in his career at which, as he put it, he has nothing to prove to himself or others.
