An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 11 minutes ago 70 km southwest of Makubetsu, Japan, Japan s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 259.7 km beneath the epicenter near Makubetsu, Wakkanai Shi, Hokkaido, Japan, early evening on Friday 16 April 2021 at 7:54 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Makubetsu (pop. 25,900, 70 km away), Wakkanai (pop. 41,600, 71 km away), Nayoro (pop. 26,500, 87 km away), and Rumoi (pop. 26,500, 94 km away), the quake was probably not felt

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred early morning on Friday 16 April 2021 at 4:09 am local time near Ovalle, Provincia de Limarí, Coquimbo Region, Chile, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 43.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
