One new death is reported today in the 70-79 age group from the South West zone. The new cases are located in the following zones: Far North West, 2; Far North East, 5; Northwest, 33; North Central, 17; Northeast, 9; Saskatoon, 98; Central West, 1; Central East, 10; Regina, 68; Southwest, 9; South Central, 7; and Southeast, 32. Four new cases are pending residence information. Two cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the following zones: Northwest, 1; and Regina, 1. Recoveries total 39,954, including 237 new recoveries as of May 7, and 2,239 cases are considered active. There are 174 people in hospital, and 136 people are receiving inpatient care: Far North East, 1; Northwest, 8; North Central, 3; Northeast, 4; Saskatoon, 62; Central East, 2; Regina, 46; Southwest, 2; South Central, 3; and Southeast, 5. Thirty-eight people are in intensive care: North Central, 2; Saskatoon, 12; Central East, 3; Regina, 20; and South Central, 1.

Led by 98 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan reported the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 Friday since 300 were involved in the April 12 update from the Ministry of Health. The 295 new cases of the novel coronavirus, coupled with 237 recoveries, meant the province’s active case went up to 2,239…174 of which are in hospital. Thirty-eight of the hospitalized infections are being treated in an I-C-U. A senior in their 70s from the South West zone brought Saskatchewan’s death toll due to positive COVID-19 tests to 502. In addition, 27 cases of variants of concern were confirmed in Friday’s update, bringing the provincial total to 3,031…of which all but 45 are of the U-K strain.
