Over the past two years, the opinion section has given me so much. It’s allowed me to articulate deeply personal experiences in ways I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to. It’s brought me incredible friendships, both with Daily staffers and readers alike. It’s provided space for me to advocate for the kind of support that.
Content warning: This story discusses sexual assault. This April, I naively assumed I would witness an outpouring of support for survivors that never occurs during the rest of the year. I planned to write this piece as a how-to support survivors beyond Sexual Assault Awareness Month, or when support is no longer trendy. Yet many.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars: mocking someone’s chronic disease is unacceptable. Violence is never the answer, physical or verbal. The Daily Northwestern took home 29 awards at the Illinois College Press Association convention held over the weekend. At the organization’s annual conference, held Friday and Saturday in Chicago, The Daily won 13 first place awards, 13 second place awards and 3 honorable mentions.
