As more people are getting vaccinated and counties in California begin to open up, some begin to make travel plans. On today’s Insight, we talk about how to stay safe when traveling amid the pandemic as restrictions are lifted. We also take a look at plans for Sacramento’s Convention Center schedule and possible travel hotspots as we head into the spring and summer.
Helping hand: The government has introduced various initiatives to help ease the concerns of older workers.
THE National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme is expected to put Malaysia’s economy back on the right track, and with it a boost to the country’s employment market. This is good news for those laid off during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly older workers from the B40 or lower-income groups. While the youth are most affected by Covid-19 job losses, retrenched workers aged 45 and above within the B40 group are also facing exceptional challenges remaining in and re-entering the workforce.

When Carol Teoh read about three cases of senior citizens who had gone missing in just one week recently, she got a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. She called her 78-year-old mother and told her that she was not to drive out on her own, especially to places that are far from her home in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya. My mother sometimes likes to drive to the nurseries in Sungai Buloh or to visit her sisters in Ampang. I suddenly had nightmares about her getting disoriented and lost and not having her phone with her because, believe me, that happens way too often. It s safe if my siblings or I take her wherever she wants to go, I think, says Teoh, a pysiotherapist, who lives with her family just a few doors away from her mother, Kate.
