On the ice, face masks are worn by the goaltender as added protection, but in 2021, every skater on the ice is wearing a different mask for a different type of protection from COVID-19.
“I’m more used to it now,” Belmont High sophomore Lily Duffy said. Duffy, a Belmont girls’ ice hockey player, is one of thousands of student-athletes across the state getting accustomed to wearing a mask while playing a sport.
“It’s difficult, but it’s difficult for everyone,” Duffy said.
Mandating masks during competition is just one of the protocols enforced by the Middlesex League in an attempt to push through the athletics schedule with as few issues as possible.
