Alpena County 4-H youth score high at state skillathon | News, Sports, Jobs

Brooke McKenzie Five 4-H youth members from Alpena County recently competed at the state level in the 2021 Michigan 4-H Skillathon Championship. Brooke McKenzie’s scores placed her top in the state for overall knowledge in livestock, senior division. Also among the top five scorers for this division was Alpena 4-H member Hunter Ballor. Other competitors from Alpena included Senior Lilly Mckenzie, Junior Alison Borowski, and Novice Jazzmyne Kowalski. Keira Werth also qualified for states but was unable to attend the event. The 2021 Michigan 4-H Skillathon Championship is a contest of knowledge in which youth demonstrate their ability to identify, judge and evaluate several areas related to the production and management of beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, horses, dogs, and general knowledge. Alpena County 4-H alumni take top honors at skillathon | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 22, 2021 Two 4-H alumni from Alpena County took top honors recently in the Adult Division at the 2021 Michigan 4-H Skillathon Championship. Jennifer (Cripps) Wasson’s score earned her the tittle of State Champion for the Adult Division. Holly Glomski scored within the top five in the adult division for Michigan. Both women participated in 4-H in Alpena County as youth; going on to careers and continuing as 4-H volunteers. Wasson grew up showing livestock with Alpena County 4-H. She was active in 4-H, winning in Master Stockman contest in 1989, and being named Alpena County 4-H’er of the year in the fall of 1995.
