It was a busy weekend of events as Taranaki made the most of the the good weather. The Oakura Skate Jam took place at the coastal town s skate park on Saturday, with about 300 people attending throughout the day to watch the 20 competitors compete. One of the youngest, two-year-old Nathan Donsimoni, of Okato, wowed the crowd with a little helping hand from his dad, Pascal.

Meanwhile, Bark in Park at New Plymouth s Pukekura Park also proved to be a ‘paw-some’ event on Saturday, with about 100 dogs and 300 of their human friends attending the TSB Festival of Lights Summer Scene event, organiser Hannah Doherty said.

Ngāmotu Beach was packed with families building sandcastles on Monday. They spent an hour creating the body of the turtle, which required Harper smoothing the sand underneath with water so it didn t collapse. “We’re just going to do the detail then we re going to have a hot sausage, Aaron Scrivener said.
