Stronger heritage protection in Colonel Light Gardens
Heritage protection in Colonel Light Gardens will be strengthened under planning reforms and updated heritage guidelines – both of which are now out for public consultation.
South Australia’s new planning system will update the guidelines for State Heritage Areas (SHA), including those specific to Colonel Light Gardens.
Under these reforms, State Heritage protections will be strengthened, with the role of the Heritage Minister elevated in the development assessment process.
There will also be a new Overlay to protect SHAs, including Colonel Light Gardens. This Overlay ensures that development within Colonel Light Gardens is managed in a way that maintains the garden suburb’s historic significance.
