The Spanish colonial mansion-turned cigar factory known as Casa Favilli is getting a fresh new face with the appointment of 27-year-old Indiana Ortez, who has been named general manager for the company’s Nicaraguan operations.
Ortez got her start in the cigar business at the age of 22 working for her father Omar in Condega, Nicaragua, at Agroindustrial Nicaraguense de Tabacos S.A. (Agrotabacos). She started on the factory floor, learning the ins and outs of rolling and production, and eventually became quality control manager and chief marketing officer for her father’s factory. In the past, Ortez collaborated with Ventura Cigar Co. to create a limited-edition cigar blend called Father, Friends, and Fire.

As Mombacho Cigars S.A. celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Nicaraguan cigar manufacturer turns to its founder for new leadership. Cam Heaps has been named president of Mombacho Cigars, the only major cigarmaker in Nicaragua’s colonial city of Granada.
Although Heaps founded Mombacho in 2006, he only served on the company’s board in an advisory capacity. Now that he’s accepted this operational position, Heaps has replaced Claudio Sgroi, who served a dual role as Mombacho’s president and master blender. Sgroi is also a partner with the company and can now concentrate on product development while Heaps assumes more hands-on responsibilities.
