Spring bookings start to skyrocket
Suddenly the COVID winter went from “hanging on” for hotels, motels and other lodging properties in ski resort towns to “hang on to your hats.” If there ever has been welcome news for innkeepers, this is it.
A Mountain Market Briefing this week from DestriMetrics, the business intelligence arm of Liftopia that tracks such things, is reporting late season bookings are setting an all-time record yes, all-time record.
Citing “the dramatic decline in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths coupled with good snowfall in many regions,” reported Tom Foley, senior vice president for Business Operations and Analytics for Inntopia,” that’s helped to drive strong bookings and incremental fill during the past month.

It all depends on where you live. That is clearly the upshot of the pandemic winter for skiers and riders the world over.
Consider ourselves among the lucky ones who can continue to enjoy our favorite sport at the resorts we know and love as long as those resorts are in the United States, Canada, Austria and Switzerland and we live there. OK, so we wear a mask, grab lunch on the go and consider our cars as mini base lodges.. But, we can ski or snowboard, right?
Ligety woke up to severe back pain Friday and announced via social media that “a scan revealed my back was herniated to the point it’s not safe to ski.”

Pacific Northwest
The atmospheric river comes to an end on Thursday. But, smaller storm systems are lined-up. One on Friday and another on Sunday with light to moderate snow accumulation. Snow levels were high during the atmospheric river with high density snowfall on the highest volcanoes and highest Cascades.
Banff
The atmospheric river comes to an end on Thursday. Thursday is probably the best powder day of the next 5 days. But, smaller storm systems are lined-up. One on Friday and another on Sunday with light to moderate snow accumulation.
