The deceased workers had finished water-proofing work and entered the lift at the 40th floor when the lift came crashing down at around 7:30 pm on Sunday.
A case has been registered against the contractor under Indian Penal Code sections 304(2) (rash and negligent act), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others)
The death toll in the lift collapse incident in Thane, Maharashtra, has risen to seven. According to officials, there were a total of seven laborers in the lift, and all of them have been declared dead. The accident occurred due to the breaking of the lift s rope, while the workers were descending. Investigation is still ongoing.
According to officials of Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster cell, the incident at the 40-storey building took place in the evening when the labourers were coming down in the elevator after completing their work. The elevator shaft broke and the lift collapsed to the basement of the underground parking, they said.
