No stranger to The Bullring, Wexford Tidy Towns stalwart Phil Murphy was without her high-vis vest and litter picker as she arrived at her regular stomping ground on Saturday.
A dark cloud hung over Wexford Wanderers Rugby Club this week as news filtered to Park Lane of the passing of a club member, a friend and “a hero” to all involved in the setup there.
Relay for Life Wexford is an event that fulfils many functions. It can be cathartic for those who’ve lost loved ones to cancer to gather in a warm and welcoming environment to remember them, speak to others who have endured similar losses and undertake their own personal pilgrimage while raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Last year’s Relay for Life in Wexford was the first without founder, leader and force of nature Gay Murphy at the helm. With Gay having passed away the previous September, the committee were forced to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and continue the wonderful legacy which she had created.
