A teenage boy witnessed a shark bite his surf ski before it retreated into the ocean, where only its bright red eyes could be seen.
Surf lifesaver Jed Ffrench, 17, was paddling with four friends when he was attacked by a bronze whaler about 2km off the shore of Glenelg Beach in Adelaide at 7pm on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old said he could only see the shark s bright red eyes staring at him from the water and was unable to tell the predator s size.
