Stephenson County crash kills 52-year-old Roscoe man

FREEPORT A two-vehicle crash in Stephenson County Saturday injured two children and killed two people, including a Roscoe man.  According to the Stephenson County Sheriff s Office, the crash took place at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Winneshiek and Afolkey roads about four miles northeast of Freeport. The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 52-year old man from Roscoe, was taken by Life Flight One helicopter to OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was pronounced dead nearly two hours after the crash.  According to Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz, an autopsy shows the preliminary cause of death to be blunt trauma to the chest and right leg. A toxicology report will be available in approximately three weeks.

According to the Stephenson County Sheriff s Office, the crash took place at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Winneshiek and Afolkey roads about four miles northeast of Freeport. The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken by Life Flight One helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two children who were passengers were transported by ambulance to FHN Memorial Hospital.
