More than 7,000 Arrested in KwaZulu-Natal for Contravening COVID-19 Level 3 Lockdown Regulations

KwaZulu-Natal police say more than seven thousand people were arrested for violating the COVID-19 Level 3 lockdown regulations in the province from December last year to January this year.
The province co-ordinated multi-disciplinary operations across KZN focussing on hotspot areas where majority of reports of non-compliance were received
The police’s Jay Naicker says Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has expressed his concern that citizens in the province are still being arrested on a daily basis for not complying with the adjusted alert Level 3 Lockdown regulations.
“Since the announcement of latest Level 3 Lockdown regulations, we have embarked on daily operations focused on ensuring that all the citizens in the province comply with the regulations to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”

We are urging citizens to comply with the regulations as law enforcement officers continue to work around the clock with all other departments to protect communities from being exposed to the COVID-19 virus,” he said.

Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested 7270 people across the province for not complying with regulations related to lockdown level 3 that is aimed at stemming the spread of the coronavirus.
Of those that have been arrested since tighter regulations were imposed in December, at least 5 228 were arrested for not wearing a mask in public.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula said he was concerned that people in the province were still not complying with the regulations.

On 22 January 2021 at 20:30, the police officers from EThekwini District Rapid Response conducted operations in the Wentworth area.
Whilst conducting operational duties, members received information about a suspect who was dealing in liquor. The team proceeded to Merebank where they confiscated a large quantity of liquor, crates of beers, ciders as well as cash gained from the sale of liquor. The 55-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. He was charged for dealing in liquor. The estimated value of the seized liquor is R6 000-00. The suspect appeared before the Wentworth Magistrates Court on 25 January 2021 where he was granted a bail of R2 000-00. The matter was adjourned to 28 January 2021.

He was arrested last week after police were tipped off about his alleged activities.
Police confiscated beers, ciders and other liquor, said to have a total value of R6 000 - as well as cash believed to be the proceeds of the illegal sales.
He appeared in court yesterday and granted R2000 bail.
