those numbers supposedly corresponding to safe areas, but the reality is people don t have power or internet communication, or at least it s intermittent. and so, very often, they have no idea where to go. earlier, i spoke with our diplomatic correspondent, paul adams, injerusalem and asked what sorts of warnings the israelis are sending to the people of gaza. they re basically saying that if you are living in an area just to the east and north of khan younis, one of the largest cities in the southern part of the gaza strip, then you need to move west and get out of the way. that map you re seeing there on your screen, that red dotted line is the salahadin street, which runs throughout the gaza strip from north to south. and that area, that red dotted area is a stretch of the road that the israelis are saying palestinians should not get anywhere near. at the bottom end of that dotted line is the city of khan younis. the yellow orange line is saying this is the alternative rou
on khan younis and rafah in the south have continued as have those in the jabaliya refugee camp in the north. israel insists it s making maximum effort to avoid killing civilians. hospitals inside gaza are struggling to take in the casualties, with un officials describing a degree of panic in medicalfacilities that hasn t been seen before. the un says palestinians who are being told to leave areas which were previously seen as safe, are being pushed into a narrow corner of gaza. our middle east correspondent, yolande knell, reports. ominous warnings the israeli flares that hang in the night sky over gaza are followed by the thuds of explosions. rumbling explosion. and on the ground, israel s military says its offensive has now expanded to every part of the palestinian territory. it said its operations here will be of no less strength than those that have devastated the north. explosions, shouting. israel s already ordered more evacuations in the south of gaza, crowded
let s get more from our security correspondent, frank gardner. this is a potential route to further escalation of the israel hamas war. the hu theis, who have controlled much of yemen for the last nine years houthis, they control that course, they are backed by iran. time and again they have spoken of what they call their brothers, hamas. three ships have been attacked by their drones and missiles yesterday. the us navy missiles yesterday. the us navy missile guided destroyer that was the in area came to their aid. it is possible that came under fire as well. it is not clear if that was directed against the us warship as well. the us navy warship took defensive action and shot down two of the drones, but there were some hits on the ships. the reason why this is the risk of escalation is that the us has said that this is a threat to maritime security and commercial shipping, and that it was going to consider the appropriate response in conjunction with its allies and partne
