1980 plane crash: Did a French missile aimed at Muammar al

In 1980, a plane crash over the Mediterranean Sea killed 81 people. To this day, the cause is officially unclear. Former Italian Prime Minister Giuliano Amato is now blaming France for the disaster. Amato argued that the plane had been hit by an errant French missile. The original plan was to kill the then Libyan ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi on board a fighter jet on board the DC9. The plane of the airline Itavia had crashed on June 27, 1980 near the small Italian island of Ustica.
